tixe Artist Open Studio Program

The TIXE Artist Open Studio Program was designed to give an artist the space to work on whatever project he/she wishes, without the added economic pressures that come from renting studio space and to give the public an opportunity to glimpse a part of the artistic / creative process normally hidden from them.

The program is open to all visual artists, regardless of media, however, darkroom facilities are not available, so photographers will have to be extra creative.

The studio is rectangular, measuring 18 x 13 feet at its shortest length (one column on either side of the space). The ceiling is basically in two sections. The lowest (along a beam) is 7 feet high. The other half of the space is over 20 feet high.

Studio residencies are of 6 weeks in duration in 2003, and 5 weeks in 2004.
The artist will have 24-hour access to the studio, 7 days a week.

The public will be able to interact with the artist in the studio, or watch the artist work from a television monitor, when the gallery is open. While it is optimal sometimes to work without interruptions, public accessibility to the artist and the art is a large part of this residency, and we encourage the open door as a way to foster relationships between the artist and the public, hopefully benefiting both.

The artist is responsible for all supplies to be used during the residency. TIXE will be able to provide a few worktables.

Studio artists are asked to donate at least one signed finished work or sketch from their time at TIXE, decided upon by the artist and the director of TIXE, at the end of the residency.
