Yasmin Gur is an Israeli artist based in Brooklyn,NY. Her recent sculpture is built with reclaimed wood. Using weathered material, she appropriates the histories of her salvaged material to create structures that evoke the living processes of an organism. Her work, biomorphic yet geometric abstract forms in wood, metal, and other materials, embodies sensuality, ambiguity, and ambivalence. Her public commissions include PS1 Summer Celebrations, LIC, NY, Roberson Museum & Science Center at Binghamton,NY, and Reading Garden Outdoor Sculpture for PS166, New York, NY.Yasmin earned her MFA from Brooklyn College, NY and received her BFA from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel. Her work has been widely exhibited in Israel, and the United States, most recently in a 2013 solo show at Sculptors Guild Gallery, in Dumbo Brooklyn, NY.Yasmin participated in CurateNYC2013 where her work ‘’BIoom” was selected by curator Hitomi Iwasaki, Director of Exhibitions, Queens Museum, Brooke Davis Anderson, Executive Director, US Biennial, Inc., and Mahnaz Fancy, Executive Director of ArteEast. Yasmin is currently a member of Sculptors Guild and a resident artist of the Chashama Studio Program in Brooklyn.
