This 1920’s Avante-Garde drama by Polish author Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz is based on the life of Mathematician Georg Cantor, the man who proved the existance of infinity. He undermined the principal mathematicians of the time and ended up in a mental institution until his death in 1919.
You’ll witness Tumor/Cantor’s world transform from a child’s nursery to the surreal Island of Timor. Here he indulges in incest, murder and high math among a band of Malays (Violin, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, and Percussion) and an assortment of exotic puppets.
Sunsets and oceans, beautiful hand puppets, repetitious stage transformations, live music, poetry, repetitious stage transformations and the really good actors tell this peculiar story.
The cast is Holter Graham, Kelly VanZile, Nicky Paraiso, and Mary Regan.
Part opera, part drama, and part puppet show, Tumor Brainiowicz premieres in full at La Mama in March, 2002.
