Concluding it's North American tour, The 47 Ninja Clowns is an adaptation of a 14th century koan by zen master Inu Wakarima-Sen. Written by the winner of the Foreal-Clementi Prize for Outstanding Literary Contribution in the New Millenium, Richard Tiernankovsky, this lavish production fuses Noh theater, mime and commedia dell'arte into an east-west epic of war, love and serendipitous slapstick seppuku.

Mark Greenfield directs
Faux-Real Theater in
"Shakespeare's Haunted House"

a site-specific, environmentally staged, theatrical event tailor made for a frightfully delicious New York -Halloween. Created by Artistic Director Mark Greenfield in collaboration with The Faux-Real Theatre Company, the show is composed entirely of Shakespearean text that has been taken out of its original context and resurrected in modern day Manhattan. In this compilation of text from nearly all of Shakespeare's plays, the Bard's wickedest characters are summoned from their graves as ghosts and forced by their creator, The Ghost of William Shakespeare, to re-live their tragic fates before the eyes of free-roaming audience-participants. Ultimately, the characters rebel against Shakespeare and try to kill him. The master playwright crushes their insurrection, as his legendary characters cannot sever the eternal link between themselves and their creator.

There is no barrier between audience and performer. Romeo speaks directly to a group of teenagers. Ophelia offers flowers to a member of the audience. The Ghost of Mark Anthony beseeches onlookers to dip their hands in Caesar's wounds. The immediacy and contemporary relevance transcends the boundaries of traditional "fourth wall" theater. with anachronistic touches that place them in present-day New York City. Hamlet wears a brocade doublet with combat boots; under a black leather jacket, Macbeth wears a kilt; the Three Witches have dreadlocks; Caliban wears the black-and-white striped uniform of a prison inmate.

The show is ideal for audiences of all ages, although more sensitive viewers might want to be forewarned that the show is scary.

Over the past six years the William Shakespeare's Haunted House has been performed at such venues as Belvedere Castle in Central Park and on the Tall Ship Peking at South Street Seaport. In that time the show has reached over 30,000 audience members. The Faux-Real Theatre Company is delighted to be bringing our unique New York Halloween spectacular to haunt the halls of Chashama's 42nd street theater this coming October 2002 for a limited three week engagement.

THE WORLD OF THE P-CULT
Explore the sizzling domain of creatures from another realm at
111 West 42nd Street between Broadway & Sixth Avenue
May 23rd - June 15th
FINAL WEEK
Thurs - Sat at 10 PM Tickets $12
postcard front of "THE WORLD OF THE P-CULT" at 111 W.42nd

chashama presents THE P-CULT’S flagship theatrical production, THE WORLD OF THE P-CULT at 111 West 42nd Street. This underworld extravaganza explodes into Times Square on May 23rd with a full on sizzling staged spectacular. Flambeaux, “Father of the Fire show” brings together a company of independent downtown performers selected from the most extreme, outrageous and innovative of New York City’s club, cabaret and performance scenes. This cutting edge troupe develops new styles of pop expression and ‘button-pressing entertainment’, with a bent towards conceptual art and the feel of an ever-present, self-questing spirituality.

The show will take THE P-CULT and make it three-dimensional and fuel injected. The Cultists tear it up, and reach inside for the fires of the soul with more sex, more violence, more fun, and more glamour than the average person can handle. The characters tell and even sing their own stories as they carefully execute the ability to blow your mind. The P-CULT has developed a reputation in various downtown club scenes where extreme expression is welcomed. Therefore, it targets as one section of its market, non-theater goers who find their entertainment in clubs. This show is for mature audiences only and rated XXX.

About the Producer, Director and Set Designer

Flambeaux is the Producer for THE WORLD OF THE P-CULT. He created and developed The P-CULT two years ago combining the influences he has acquired during his 15-year career. Flambeaux’s history includes such alternative scene gems as Bread and Puppets, Circus Archaos, Tag Theater and The Blue Angel Erotic Cabaret. He has also had work/bookings with Broadway Bares, MTV, David LaChapelle, HBO, and countless European and US dance club stages. Flambeaux rose from the late 80’s Euro-shock underground through the alternative US performance art and street performance scene, and on through club land, to arrive presently as an establishment in the independent performance scene and as the father of the fire show spectacular.

Anita Durst is the Director for THE WORLD OF THE P-CULT. She is a founding member and President of chashama, Inc., with whom she has produced, co-produced and presented over 20 productions since 1995. In 1988 she co-produced Krapp’s Last Tape and Crowbar with Anne Hamburger and En Garde Arts. She then assisted Peter Askin with the production of Mambo Mouth and the restoration of the West Side Theatre. She was a founding member of Reza Abdoh's Dar A Luz company, with whom she co-produced Tight Right White and Law of Remains and appeared in many of his productions. In 2000 Anita starred and received a Drama Desk Award nomination for her role as Marlena in The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant at Henry Miller’s Theater. This production also marked her debut as an Off-Broadway producer.

Veronica Evanega is the Set Designer for THE WORLD OF THE P-CULT. She is the founder and president of Blaze New York, a metal design company where she privately sells her work. Veronica studied Design and Film/Video/Sound Engineering at Parsons/New School For Social Research, SVA, and Institute of Audio Research. She worked for several years at The Kitchen on Annie Sprinkle and La Feura Dels Baus. Her most dynamic costume designs have been seen at Gen Art and Theater For A New Audience. Her chain mail clothing design have been worn by such stars as Gweneth Paltrow, Whitney Houston, The women of WWF, Marilyn Manson, Monster Magnet and Man O' War. She is currently a Resident Artist at chashama.
