Auditions for James Dean lookalikes for The Outlaw Series

mask logo for the Outlaw Series
Fri., Dec.19, 10a - 6p
Seeking male or female James Dean look-a-likes. No experience necessary. Receive photographic print for pay. Swift path to glory.

Lisa Kirk is pleased to announce "THE OUTLAW SERIES 2003". With projects by Hrafnhildur Arnardottir AKA Shoplifter, Edda Gudmunsdottir & Andrea Helgadottir, Jamey Bair, Bengala & Jana Leo, Raul Bustos, Ann Craven, Christopher Chambers, Jeremiah Clancy, Brad McCallum and Jackie Tarry, Dearraindrop, Darkpassage, Jane D'Arensbourg and Lary Seven, Adam Dugas, Jack Early, John Engstrom, Lilah Freedland, Jonah Freeman, Christy Gast, Gary Gissler, Sam Gordon, David Grainger, Karen Heagle, Tali Hinkis, Danny Hobart, Scott Hug, KAYROCK.ORG, Tohru Kanayama, Matt Keegan, Douglas Kelley , Patrick Killoran, Mark Klassen, Tarikh Korula, Aaron Krach, Emily Lambert, Joel Dugan, Nina Sweeny, and Robert Weiss, Dennis Delgado, Charlene Liu, Emily Lutzger, Robert Melee, Shelley F. Marlow, Gene Dante, Lee Ann Brown, Kathe Izzo & other surprise guests, Keith Mayerson, Jason Middlebrook, Aleksandra Mir, Brian Monzingo, Nelson, Adam Pendleton, Chris Pennok, Doug Rochelle, Halsey Rodman & Matt King, A.L.Steiner, Swoon, Mungo Thomson, Larry Warshaw, Claudia Vieira.

Inspired by New York's pre-Giuliani era Outlaw Parties, which were entirely illegal events taking place throughout the NY Metro area in the mid 1980s, this Guerilla-style exhibition features works that are placed, performed, installed or simply occur in unorthodox settings. Without the aid of commercial or public institutions, the artists participating in the Outlaw Series take the questions of context, economy, time and meaning into their own hands, embracing the freedom of dissent that creativity thrives upon. In this spirit of alternatives to more conventional exhibitions and exhibition spaces, all of the artists listed below have proposed radical approaches to contemporary art making and installation.

These projects and events take place between December 13 and 20th, and the locations of each individual work will be posted on the fully downloadable website/catalogue. For more information or to join our mailing list, please contact Lisa Kirk, lisa@theoutlawseries.com.

WE'RE ALL DEAD
By James Evans and Francis Heaney

The Greatest English 101 Cliffs Notes Musical Comedy of All Time!
postcard front for 'We're All Dead'
Nov.15 - Dec.14, 2003
Opens Sat, Nov. 15th at 8:00 PM
with another show Sun, Nov. 16th also at 8:00 PM

***thereafter Thursdays through Sundays at 8:00 PM through December 14th.
***There are no shows on Thanksgiving or the following day***

Irreverently based on Oedipus, The Metamorphosis and Hamlet, yet true to the stories, We're All Dead presents these 3 classic tales in a hyperactive (and cheerfully profane) hour and a half musical romp. "Oedipus Rocks" lampoons Sophocles's tragic tale of a King bound by his fate to sleep with his mother, murder his father, and bring about the demise of his kingdom. "A Giant Bug's Life" spoofs Kafka's tale of alienation about a man who wakes up changed into a bug. Finally, "Zany Danes" retells the Bard's classic about the young prince who just can't manage to make any decisions, in a way that has never been seen before. Seriously.
The Cast of over 20 includes Jedidiah Cohen, Tom Bartos, Michelle Bialeck, Trisha Gorman, Tate Henderson, Sean Doran, Jason St. Sauver, and Vanessa Longley-Cook.
Set Design by Charlie Calvert

Ubu Roi
By Alfred Jarry
Directed by Charmian Creagle

postcard front for The Pretention Co.s' 'Ubu Roi'
December 1st through December 14th
Performances Monday through Wednesday at 8:00 PM
Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2:00 PM

chashama presents The Pretention Co.'s inaugural production - Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi. In its tongue in cheek nature, the newly formed company is thrilled to offer up what many consider the inspiration for absurdism, dada and surrealism, but what is in all actuality, a joke. The play was created by Jarry and his schoolmates during the late 1800s as a prank centered around his physics teacher whom they considered an absolute buffoon. The story is a simple one - Ubu, the play's anti-protagonist is coerced by his wife to kill the king of Poland (stolen unflinchingly from the story of Macbeth). Along the way Ubu manages to destroy the entire political regime, steal all he can, kill anyone who opposes him, and of course, get away with it.

SWEET WILLIAM COLLECTIVE
PREMIERES RON FITZGERALD'S

PARTS UNKNOWN
9/12 - 9/29
Wed-Sat @ 8pm
Sat-Sun @ 3pm (except 9/28)
Mon, 9/29 @ 8pm

Directed by Michael Criscuolo
Cast: Tim Artz*, Brian Cichocki, Danielle Duvall*, Nathan Perez*, Bryan Richards*, Ed Sambucci, Tamara Scott*, Mandy Siegfried*, Ken Schatz*, Patricia Spahn*, and Dan Truman.

Sweet William Collective (SWC) presents the World Premiere of Parts Unknown, a new play by Juilliard playwright Ron Fitzgerald and directed by Michael Criscuolo. Parts Unknown was originally presented as a staged reading at the National Playwrights Conference, James Houghton, Artistic Director at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. It was then featured in SWC's Informal Reading Series, last October. "We have found an exciting, necessary new work, and we're thrilled to bring it to full production", says Danielle Duvall, SWC's Founder and Artistic Director.

Parts Unknown is an acerbic new play addressing the corruption of humanity in America. It follows the lives of seven disparate people: a rock musician and his teenage groupie, two ruthless corporate sharks, an innocent, backwards youth and his older brother, and a mysterious (and disarmingly droll) shaman. The play chronicles the lacerating effect of today's capitalistic, media-laden, bottom-line society on those who yearn for something deeper. A struggle, both hilarious and tragic, to fight against the deeply-ingrained habits of selfishness and greed.

Parts Unknown is not intended for children: parental discretion is advised.
Reservations are strongly recommended.
RESERVATION HOTLINE: 917-269-0125.
Tickets: $15 at the door.

Sweet William Collective is a new, Manhattan-based theatre company made up of 40 audacious, seasoned artists (writers, actors, directors, designers), and Parts Unknown marks the first of four upcoming productions during SWC's inaugural season. Deeply rooted in the principles of ensemble collaboration and artistic risk, the mission of Sweet William Collective is to advance the vitality of New York's ever-changing community, through exceptional storytelling in theatre. SWC provides enriching, thought-provoking material, furthering the developmental growth of both our artists and our audiences.

Guthrie, Pete Seeger and others in the cozy Times Square window of
Chashama Theater. There, the performers will sing to the passing
public, playing characters that might not normally sing these songs
-- the bank teller from Harrisonburg, Virginia, the high school track
coach from Minnesota. This juxtaposition of protest songs from the
mouths of these characters promises to be entertaining and
provocative.
