chashama welcomes Dan McKereghan back for his
third annual visit to their unique performing space in the window
of 135 W 42 Street. An Honest Effort is the latest project by this
NEA award winning artist. This year, Dan will be performing nine
hours every day for five consecutive days in a new piece inspired
by the myth of Sisyphus.
Risk-taking, committed, intelligent, comical, clever,
colorful, generous, eye-catching and at times bare naked... Dan is
on a mission- as in "all the worlds a stage" for his personal
expression of ideas, art, literature, humanity. Dan began his relationship
with chashama in 2001, when he presented transparence, a week-long
piece exploring the relationship of the visible with the invisible.
The following February brought 30eights, a series of thirty consecutive
eight-hour performances about the number 8. Last October, Dan was
the festival director for Currency 2002, which brought performance
artists from around the world to the theater at 135 W 42 St.
Dan McKereghan is a performance
artist from Brooklyn, active in the downtown performance scene for
20 years. In 1991 he founded Hit & Run Theater, a site specific
company which presented nearly 100 unique performances at locations
throughout New York City. In 1996 Dan began his solo career which
has lead him to perform in festivals and galleries in Seattle, LA,
Poland, Hungary, Romania, Finland, Canada and Wales. In November
he will participate in the Coalition festival in Valparaiso, Chile.
