In the photographic series Re(x), viewers encounter imagery that is pulled directly from the exhibition space itself.  Starting at sunrise, Cossio begins with a blank sheet of photographic paper placed on a wall directly facing the gallery’s window. A photograph of the blank paper is taken, printed and re-photographed. The process continues throughout the day, every 20 minutes, until the sun has set. Reflections of the artist, the changing atmosphere, visitors, and the city life outside the gallery’s windows will all be faintly recorded and folded onto the surface of the prints. The resulting prints will be exhibited within the gallery space for the duration of the exhibition. The public is invited to come visit the artist on September 10th to view and be included in the photographic performance.

About the Artist:
Angeles Cossio is a multi-disciplinary artist born in Queens, New York, and based in the New York metropolitan area. Drawing on her experiences of the natural world in this densely populated corridor, her work examines the intersection of nature and daily life. Cossio’s work has been exhibited and screened at the Sheldon Museum of Art, Bemis Center of Contemporary Art, Site Santa Fe, Manifold Gallery in Chicago, the Bronx Art Space, and ArtHelix in Brooklyn. She has been awarded residencies at ACRE, The Land in Mountainair, NM and the Wassaic Project. She teaches photography and interdisciplinary courses at various colleges and institutions in the NYC area. Looking for a way to explore ideas that she could not realize alone in her studio, she co-founded Drift Station, a curatorial platform with Jeff Thompson in 2010. As Drift Station she has curated international exhibitions, organized community events, and published print publications. www.angelescossio.com
