Susan Ritter: A Vision for a New Times Square

Susan Ritter is a NYC artist living with a long time pursuit of answers to lofty questions: the great divide between what one does and what one wants to do, how one contributes to society and what one takes with one when we go.

In an effort to explore these questions personally and, with an eye turned toward our society and culture, she creates images in an attempt to communicate a sense of fear, frustration, disillusionment, fragmentation, isolation, sadness and endless hope. She maintains the position that art represents the uniqueness of the independent vision, with images, ideas and positions that transcend the offensive barrage of the commercial image and thought.

She also believes that the act of creating, be it through science, engineering, dance, social work, writing, singing - or any venue of creating - provides the creator with an unparalleled personal strength with freedom to develop their own benchmark, their own yardstick, their own validators. And she believes that art should have a dominate presence in the public eye.
