Laura Barnett works in theater and film as a director, writer, producer, curator, and performer. She is particularly interested in site-specific work that is performed free-of-charge in alternative spaces.

Solo work includes Secret Confession Box and Spinning, which she performed in storefront windows on Times Square and at The D.U.M.B.O. Arts Festival. Inside/Out, an interactive window performance created in collaboration with Sandra Spannan, was performed in a storefront on West 44th Street and at Galerie Tristesse in Berlin. Conversation Hearts, a performance created for the New York subway, was presented by the Love-A-Commuter Project and sponsored by Artists's Space. chashama Theater recently awarded her a National Endowment for the Arts re-grant for her work as a performer and curator.

As a collaborator with the experimental collective Love Theater during the 1990's, Laura was based in Holland and Hungary. The company toured major European venues such as London's Institute of Contemporary Arts as well as performed in alternative spaces ranging from a factory for the Zurich Theaterspektakel to an abandoned synagogue in Yugoslavia. As Visiting Artists at The Wooster Group's New York's Performing Garage, they a received a rave reviews from The New York Times for the production of She Who Once Was the Helmet Maker's Beautiful Wife.

New York companies she has worked with include Reza Abdoh's Dar-A-Luz Jacques d'Amboise National Dance Institute; The Faux-Real Theatre Company, En Garde Arts, The Poetry Project at Saint Mark's, Symphony Space, Galapagos, and The Eldridge Street History Project.

Film work includes Assistant Directing renowned filmmaker Amir Naderi's ABC Manhattan; A, B, C… was an Official Selection at festivals including Cannes and Sundance. She wrote the dialogue for Naderi's Marathon, praised by Variety Magazine and seen in festivals from TriBeCa to Tokyo. After Marathon's New York commercial release, the film screened on the Sundance Channel.

Laura teaches and directs theater at Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn Heights. She has taught at Columbia University's Program for High School students. She is a graduate of Brown University with a degree in Creative Writing and has done additional coursework at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) and Parson's.

A New York native, she is married to theater director Mark Greenfield. They live in Manhattan with their son JackAllen Atlantic.
