chashama’s Gallery Program gives artists the ability to bring their work into the public, professional realm. Our ground-floor, storefront exhibition venues run the gamut from vacant, old industrial spaces to the more typical “white box,” and are temporarily taken-over and programmed based upon the constraints of the venues, the character of the neighborhoods, and the strength and clarity of the artist’s proposal. There are two ways to show your work in a chashama Gallery space: through our competitive application process, or rental. Many of the selected artists and curators chosen from our applicant pool receive a space at no cost, help with installation and press, and in addition, some also receive cash grants to help fund the project.
We accept proposals from artists and curators for group or solo shows, and program visual art exhibitions of all kinds. Our locations can vary from month to month, and participating shows can last anywhere from 2 weeks to a month or more. If any sales are made during a chashama exhibition, we do request 15%. We also require a physical presence in the space while the doors are open to the public - whether it is the artist or a gallery-sitter.
