Located on our beautiful 5-acre estate in Pine Plains, New York, chaNorth combines live-in studios with private workspaces, shared gallery areas, and a communal kitchen in a serene Hudson Valley setting. During each one-month session, six artists and writers from diverse artistic backgrounds live and create at chaNorth.
Our communal kitchen is stocked with fresh, local organic produce and whole grains and cooperatively prepared daily meals are the anchor of the program. Residents are asked to contribute a few hours per week working at McEnroe, a local organic farm.
chaNorth is managed and operated by chashama, which has supported creativity in New York City for the past 18 years. chashama enlivens New York City communities by transforming underutilized real estate into affordable work and presentation spaces for artists. Our summer program runs from May-September, with five monthly sessions, each beginning on the first of the month.
From December through March, the residency space is available for group gatherings, retreats, workshops, as well as for individuals seeking an independent live/work residency. The communal kitchen is available for use, though it is not stocked and residents provide their own food.
chaNorth has been home to creations by writers, choreographers, illustrators, painters, installation artists, digital artists, photographers, filmmakers, musicians, performance artists and theater artists.
