chashama, in association with The River Project & Friends of Hudson River Park, presents WATER II on Saturday, June 25th @ 3:00 & 6:00 PM and Sunday, June 26th @ 3:00 PM. This site-specific movement installation by Human Kinetics Movement Theater is conceived & created by Yana Schnitzler. This outdoor event will take place at The River Project, Pier 26 (West Side Highway @ North Moore Street) and is FREE and open to the public.
WATER II features five dancers draped in flowing fabric, representing the life and movement of New York’s Hudson river. With slow and fluid movement, the dancers unfold, stretch-out and shape the fabric creating a human extension of the Hudson. This work features Human Kinetics Movement Theater artistic director Yana Schnitzler along with performers Meghan Ballog, Veruska Cantelli, Orit Greenberg and Akiki Bo Nishijima.
Founded in 2002 by Yana Schnitzler, Human Kinetics Movement Theater blends dance & the visual arts to create site-specific movement installations that transform the environment, revealing to its audience new possibilities of perception and meaning. One of Schnitzler’s main working principles is to explore different aspects of fabric in relation to the human body.
