IMPORTANT: Tips for Artists
Here's a few helpful guides to being prepared to install your art into a gallery/space. You can consider this your artistic "Bat Belt".

Make sure you have the following tools:
- 4' level [You could buy a manual level or a laser level, which are also quite affordable and work great. BTW- Be sure to select one that fits your need. Some go around corners and some make longer lines, so pick wisely.]
- decent quality hammer
- screwdrivers [phillips head & flat head]
- pliers
- drill [for people installing large or non-traditionally hung work]
- drill bits
- proper picture hooks [They hold large amounts of weight, but leave a very small hole. They can also be removed, stored and reused in the future, which saves money.]
- pencils [Never use pen or marker on the wall. It takes a lot of work to get it off and costs more in paint and labor.]
- any hardware or hanging materials [i.e. screws, nails, double sided tape, etc.]

IMPORTANT - Make sure you go to the gallery or space.
You can't always rely on measurements and verbal explanations to have a clear understanding of how your work will look. This has been the source of many problems; not knowing what the walls are made of, maximum hanging load, visibility to the street, size of the entrance, etc.

Being prepared can make the difference in having a smooth, enjoyable install or hoping others have exactly what you need and/or having to find a store to get what you need, creating more distractions and stress. It's one of the best investments you'll make toward your artistic future.

For under $125, you can have everything you need. That's nearly the price of 4 drinks w/tip at a NYC club. [LOL]

chashama continues its tradition of providing space, technical and equipment support to the New York City arts community. Have a great installation! :)-
