About chashama's exhibit spaces:
All of chashama's visual art exhibit spaces are on the ground floor of a building, or are easily accessible from the street. Most of them were former retail stores, and have large street facing windows. chashama transforms these vacant spaces into temporary exhibit spaces; each one is unique in its layout and overall aesthetic.
chashama recognizes the importance of independent curators to the arts community.
To support the independent curator, chashama will be offering its new East Village exhibition space, chashama ABC, to individuals wishing to present works of six or more artists. We will be selecting six curators to program two shows each over the course of one year, July 2008-June 2009. Emerging and established curators (and artists who wish to curate) are welcome to apply. As chashama is interested in supporting the independent curator, curators with gallery affiliations will not be accepted. Affiliations with other non-profit arts organizations are acceptable.
If you are planning a site-specific installation for chashama's ABC gallery, it is recommended that you make a site visit to its East Village location at 169 Avenue C (btw 10th/11th Streets) before submitting an application. Applications for the New Curator Program "New Voices, New York" will be reviewed by a panel comprised of chashama staff, local gallerists, curators, peer artists, and other art world professionals.
