About the exhibits
Our exhibition programs are open only to New York City-based artists, which includes the 5 boroughs.

All of chashama's visual art exhibit spaces are on the ground floor of a building, or are easily accessible from the street. Most are or were former retail stores with large street facing windows. chashama transforms these vacant spaces into temporary exhibit spaces according to their unique layout and overall aesthetic. If you are planning a site-specific installation, we recommend that you make a site visit before submitting an application.

Exhibit opportunities are between 21 – 30 days in duration.

Applications may be made for group or solo exhibitions. Artists or curators are welcome to apply.

The artist/curator is responsible for hanging and removing the exhibit.
The artist/curator must supply a gallery sitter for any hours that the space is to be open.

chashama receives a commission of 15% of all sales from an exhibit.

Spaces
Some exhibit spaces have multiple rooms and will host exhibits of more than one artist. Independent curator projects may request the use of all rooms within a space. It is recommended that the curator visit the exhibit space before making such a request.

When a new exhibit space becomes available, floor plans will be posted on the chashama website.

Applications
Applications are normally reviewed three times a year for the spaces we currently have available. Applications for exhibits presented in association with other organizations or venues will be accepted and reviewed on their on timetable. In addition, a few traditional exhibits will be selected "in reserve" should another space become available before the next application review period.

We accept applications for the following types of visual art exhibits (non-performative):

Traditional Exhibits: works hung on the walls, sitting on the floor, or both. These exhibits are the kind you would most likely find in a "white box" gallery space.

Installation Exhibits: the work re-defines, re-organizes, and re-structures the exhibit space. Due to time constraints, chashama recommends the installation be created in parts or sections before the exhibit, with final assembly occurring in the exhibit space.

Site-Specific Installations: the work and the space are intimately connected. The work could not exist in any other location, as the location is as much a part of the work as any other element.
