In addition to connecting artists in New York City with affordable work and presentation space, we aspire to bring the benefits of art and cultural programming to New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds. We believe that art can change the path of anyone's life, and support active youth-outreach activities by providing programs with safe, free space to teach, mentor and transform young lives. Past Youth Partners:
Far Rockaway Art Workshops
In June 2015, chashama partnered with L+M Development Partners to offer free art classes for residents of Averne View in Far Rockaway, taught by chashama Workspace artists Dean Radinovsky, Barry Rosenthal, and Danny Licul. Residents had the opportunity to interact with the artists and learn the art-making process.
Supplies for the workshops were generously sponsored by L+M Development Partners.
A chashama and Project YEAH partnership, YouthArts Now Summer 2014 was a 6-week arts-intensive employment program that served more than 30 at-risk youth (14-24 years of age). Founded by chashama studio artist Roy Secord, the program fostered a creative dialogue addressing community challenges and provided engagement through slam poetry, essays and the visual arts projects.
YouthArts Now provided participants with a platform to become an active part in the community by utilizing the literary and visual arts as a powerful and positive voice.
ProjectArt: chashama furthered the work of ProjectArt, which gives students ages 10-18 the opportunity to actualize their dreams by exploring the technical and critical aspects of visual art and by exhibiting their work to the public.
Doing Art Together: chashama supported DAT, a non-profit arts education organization that provides hands-on programs to underserved youth audiences. DAT's programs build skills that enhance the ability to learn and further students’ lives in both academic and extracurricular forums.
NUTUREart: chashama has provided exhibition space and programmatic support to the participants of NUTUREart’s education outreach program. NURTUREart brings contemporary art underserved New York City schools. Education outreach projects have included exhibitions of student artwork, student-curated exhibitions, visits to artists' studios and lectures in public schools
