South African Youth Day Commemoration in Times Square with Large-Scale Projections, Art Installations & Live Performances

A celebration in the heart of Times Square, in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Soweto Youth Uprising, where youth stood up against an oppressive system in pursuit of the freedom of education.

The event will feature projections of art and video from 1 Future presents "Not Yet Free" in April/May 2016 in Johannesburg featuring some of South Africa's iconic performers including Dorothy Masuka, BLK JKS, Boom Shaka, Thandiswa Mazwai, Martin Machapa & TIDAL WAVES and an art exhibition and projections featuring the collaborative artworks of Samson Mnisi and Cannon Hersey.

Live musical performances from Jessica “Anjelica” Vox, just back from developing a new album in South Africa; a dance performance by Daniel Soto, the original dance captain of award-winning Broadway show, Fela, from the South Bronx Dance and Drum Academy; and an art installation by Samson Mnisi and Cannon Hersey made of 25 and 30 foot african and denim fabric paintings.

1 Future creates social progress through art, music and media. Inspired by international social justice movements for freedom around the world, 1 Future Presents "Not Yet Free” launched this year in Johannesburg, South Africa with a multi-disciplinary, international team from the US, Japan and South Africa.

Special thanks to the Jessica Cares Foundation, Zengo, Inc, and Andrew Freeman Home for making these events possible
